I took Kristina Graaff's course on spatial politics and one of the major projects was a research study on a "spatial phenomenon" in Seattle. I paired up with two of my classmates (in what is probably the most successful and least annoying group project I've ever done in my life) and researched Capitol Hill as Seattle's "gayborhood" and how gentrification has affected safe spaces (or lack thereof) in Capitol Hill. We interviewed residents and community members to get their perspective as well as visited Capitol Hill to look for visual markers of gentrification and oppression, or empowerment or and inclusion. We worked really hard on this project and were all really pleased with the outcome, a presentation to the class as well as a final paper. I've included the powerpoint below-- with some changes. I had to remove some filler slides and pictures to reduce the file size for Weebly to upload, but the integrity of the project remains in tact!
